| The Aim of The Marriage Course
The aim of The Marriage Course is to enable married couples to build a healthy marriage that will last a lifetime. During the course, couples find out new things about each other and about themselves. They also recognise the sources of pressure on their relationship. Some learn new skills for communicating and resolving conflict. Others identify changes in their lifestyle that will help them to nurture their marriage. And they grow closer to each other in the process.
The Marriage Course has been pioneered by Nicky and Sila Lee. They have been married for over twenty years and have four children. Both are on the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton. The first course ran in 1996 and there are now almost 50 courses running throughout Britain.
A crucial feature of the course is that the privacy of each couple is always respected. There is no requirement to disclose anything personal to a third party. You will never be asked to disclose anything about your relationship to anyone else.
Who is the course for?
The course is for any couple who wants to work together at their relationship, however long they have been married. The course is beneficial to those with healthy marriages, as well as for couples who are going through difficulties. Although the course is based on Christian principles and led by Christians, it is very suitable for those with no Christian faith or church background.
The structure of the course
The course takes place over seven evenings (dates below). Each evening begins with a talk on a particular topic, which may last from 30 to 60 minutes. The talk is broken up at intervals for husband and wife to talk to one another. After the talk, the couples are given a further 30 to 40 minutes to complete exercises relating to the topic of the evening, each writing down their thoughts and then discussing together what they have written.
Light refreshments (coffee/tea and dessert) are served during the course of the evening.
Further information and registration:
The cost is $20/couple, which covers course manuals (bursaries are available). Should you have any questions, or wish to register for the next course, please e-mail: THE MARRIAGE COURSE
